Fortica was once one of the town forts protecting the access to Kastav’s town gate (Voltica) and the town Loggia. Today is a favourite resting place in the shade of a century-old wild chestnut tree with a stunning view of Kvarner and Učka.
The entrance to Fortica is decorated with a flagpole (the so called štandar) with engraved words Kastav in the Constitutional Year of 1861 and two interpretation boards – one depicting the old part of the town and the other introducing visitors to the Halubje bell ringers and their procession.
